At the Aug. 13 meeting the Select Board approved a revised remote participation policy intended to update the towns rules and bring them into compliance with current state law. The board discussed the policy in the context of prior restrictions that required a majority of members in the room and noted that the updated policy permits fully remote meetings when the policy conditions are met.
Board members said they do not expect to hold fully remote meetings routinely and described the change as preserving flexibility for weather, illness, or other necessity. The motion to approve the revised remote participation policy was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board also approved a housekeeping update to the town meeting preparations and annual budget procedure, replacing outdated terminology (for example, "Board of Selectmen" changed to "Select Board") and clarifying staff responsibilities when certain positions (assistant town manager) are vacant.
Both the remote participation policy and the updated procedural guide were adopted by the board at the meeting; staff will publish the revised documents and ensure future meeting planning follows the updated language.
