Foxborough board hears plan to vet allocation of roughly $65,000 a year in opioid settlement funds

During the Select Boards Aug. 13 meeting, Paige reported that Foxborough is receiving opioid settlement funds estimated at about $65,000 per year and that a stakeholder group (public safety, public health, schools) is meeting to develop allocation recommendations.
Paige told the board she expects subject-matter experts to present prioritized proposals, metrics and data to inform the select boards decisions. "It's about $65,000 a year and a lot of interest in these funds," she said, and added that the recommendations will include options for splitting funds among multiple programs so that no single provider receives all the money.
Board members were told that prior allocations have been modest (e.g., sharps collection) and that the town retains some backlog of funds that remain unspent pending allocation. The Board of Health has reviewed the issue and recorded discussion on July 22; materials from that meeting are publicly available on the towns YouTube/Google links, according to staff.
Next steps: staff will invite experts and program leads to present proposed uses in September, with potential board review for inclusion on the Nov. 18 special town meeting warrant if required by procurement/appropriation rules.
