PSC approves Edwards water rate change to equalize inside and outside customers

The Mississippi Public Service Commission approved the Town of Edwards’s petition to adjust its water rate schedule so inside and outside customers pay the same rates.
Mr. Rhodes said the Town of Edwards previously raised rates for customers inside the corporate limits and filed to extend that change to customers in the certificated area one mile beyond city limits. The filing affects about 665 customers inside the corporate limits and 41 jurisdictional customers outside the city. The town proposed raising the base rate for the first 2,000 gallons from $25.13 to $25.88 and increasing the variable rate from $0.350 to $0.360 per 1,000 gallons.
Staff told commissioners the change was intended to make rates consistent across the system and that the difference is not statistically significant for average monthly bills. Commissioner Stamps confirmed the numeric changes as a $0.75 increase to the base and a $0.10 increase to the variable rate. The commission approved the petition by voice vote.
