Adams Central explains TAG award process and names 14 teacher recipients

Superintendent McClure briefed the board on changes to Indiana’s Teacher Appreciation Grant (TAG) and how Adams Central allocated its award funds.
McClure said the state limits the percentage of eligible teachers to 20% per district while increasing the stipend amounts. Adams Central received approximately $49,000 from the state, which the superintendent said equated to funding roughly 13.72 awards at a $3,500 stipend; the district supplemented the shortfall to make an even 14 awards.
"The amount of dollars that we got for that was right at approximately $49,000... if you divide that out by the $3,500 stipend we were going to be able to award like 13.72 awards," McClure said, explaining the anonymous application and scoring process that used student-data evidence and a rank-order system to select recipients.
Mrs. Frank read the 14 selected recipients for board approval: Carrie Ashleman, Caitlin Bussey, Shelby Dalrymple, Matt Landis, Beverly Conklin, Harry Anderson, Robin Everett, Betsy Teemley, Julie Beer, Deanna McClure, Krista Gerig, Leann Schwartz, Clint Gerber and Kevin Dines.
McClure said the selection represented a range across elementary, middle and high school and that the district would continue to review the process with teachers and administrators for possible adjustments next year.
The TAG awards and recipient list were included on the consent agenda for board approval.
