County hears highway update; resident urges action after repeated bridge washouts

Jennings County’s highway official updated commissioners on pavement work and upcoming procurement changes while a resident urged faster repair of a repeatedly washed-out bridge.
Tim, the highway representative, reported nine roads were completed in the current cycle and listed the sections finished, noting ordinary retainage practices for federally aided work. He said new LTAP and INDOT QA/QC requirements will require an updated pavement-asset-management plan and included related RFP items so future submissions will comply.
During public comment, Brent Seals, who said he lives on West County Road 750 South, described a chronic problem where the bridge on his dead-end road washes out after storms, occasionally preventing residents from leaving for work and risking emergency access. "Every time it rains, washes the bridge out. Can't get in or out. Can't get to work on time," Seals said, and asked whether he could submit bills for repeated vehicle damage. Staff advised him to file a tort claim with the auditor, and commissioners said they had quotes and "we're working on getting that fixed for you," and would follow up.
The board also moved routine approvals including payroll, claims and minutes before adjourning.
