District reports higher early-childhood and kindergarten projections, previews events and recognitions

The district superintendent reported that St. Genev Elementary had 68 scheduled kindergarten screenings with 67 students actually screened and that the district is anticipating about 84 kindergarten enrollments next year at that building. Bloomsdale Elementary recorded 39 scheduled screenings and 32 students screened, with administrators noting that late summer enrollments often raise final counts.
District early-childhood officials said the early childhood center currently has 100 students enrolled for next year (72 in three- and four-year-old classrooms and 28 returning ECSE students). Administrators said some three-year-old openings remain at Bloom due to capacity for specific age groups and that enrollment often increases into the late summer as families finalize plans.
The superintendent recognized staff accomplishments: an administrator earned MSBA's Distinguished Board Member certification; staff-of-the-month and teacher recognitions were announced (including an early-childhood special-education teacher and a nurse named staff of the month). The board heard brief reports on recent student events — a Wild Sanctuary assembly, field trips including zoo and ice-skating outings, and student art winners advancing to state competition.
Administrators also described the district's participation in the Missouri Green Schools Initiative. The district launched a composting pilot at the elementary level, where green-team students separate fruit and vegetable scraps and carry them to a compost pile about 200 yards from the school; staff are tracking baseline garbage-bag usage to measure future savings.
The superintendent reminded the board of upcoming dates: last day of the 2025'26 school year (May 21, with early dismissal), staff checkout day (May 22), and graduation events scheduled in mid-May.
