The Dare County Board of Education on April 13 adopted an update to its policy manual at second reading and approved the consent agenda during its regular meeting in Manteo.
Board member Mr. Bright moved to adopt the policy manual update as presented; Mr. Payne seconded and the board approved the motion by voice vote. Earlier in the meeting Mr. Payne moved to approve the agenda (seconded by Mr. Brower) and later moved to approve the consent agenda (seconded by Mr. Bright); both motions carried.
The policy manual update came to the board after review by the district policy committee, which reported no outstanding questions following the first reading. Board members noted there were no policies identified as needing to be waived for immediate adoption at this meeting.
Board members also discussed ongoing work in the policy committee on regulation 4400R, which governs attendance and exam exemptions. The committee reported three options under consideration—leave the regulation as written, revise it, or eliminate it—and said principals did not express consensus. The committee recommended gathering additional feedback from individual principals before the next policy meeting.
The board adjourned after routine closing remarks and community highlights.
