At its Sept. 4 meeting the Sparta board approved two personnel actions: the hiring of Kevin Powers as fire chief and the hiring recommendation of Diller Dotsson for a police officer vacancy created by the resignation of Matt Starky.
The appointment of Kevin Powers as fire chief was presented under personnel and approved by roll-call vote. After the vote, Powers addressed the board, thanked members for the selection and said he looked forward to leading the department and that community members had already reached out with support.
The board separately approved the hiring recommendation of Diller Dotsson for a police officer position to fill the vacancy left by Matt Starky’s resignation; that motion also passed by roll call. No personnel salaries or start dates were announced during the meeting.
Board members congratulated the new hires; the mayor invited Mr. Powers to meet staff following the meeting.
