The Lake Mills Town Board approved a special-event permit Dec. 9 for the Nickerbacher Ice Festival organized by Legendary Lake Mills and decided not to waive the permit fee.
Board members said the $100 base administrative portion covers application review and additional sums reflect anticipated public-safety and coordination costs; the board set the total special-event fee at $500 and adopted a policy to refund $400 if the event is canceled due to lack of ice or other conditions.
Staff noted the picnic license was paid and handled administratively and that event organizers must secure a certified operator for any alcohol service. The board also discussed the event map and locations on the lake and at Bartles/Sandy Beach and clarified that refunds of the fee would be at the town’s discretion if the event does not occur.
The permit was approved by voice vote with the $500 fee and the stated refund provision. Staff will follow up with Legendary Lake Mills on operator licensing and event logistics.
