Pahokee commission adopts 2025–26 millage and budget, approves series of routine measures

The Pahokee City Commission on Sept. 23 approved the city’s final millage rate for fiscal year 2025–26 at 6.5419 mills and adopted a $7,627,990 municipal budget. City Manager and staff explained that the adopted millage exceeds the computed roll-back rate of 5.9585 mills by about 9.7 percent.
The commission took the measures together during the meeting’s public-hearing segment, heard no public speakers on the items and voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 2025‑54 (final millage) and Resolution 2025‑55 (final budget). City Manager said a corrected, final version of the budget will be posted in the coming weeks to reflect clarifications requested by commissioners.
Council members also approved a package of routine fiscal and operational items. The commission unanimously adopted: - Ordinance 2025‑01 consenting to continued inclusion of the city in Palm Beach County’s Fire Rescue municipal service taxing unit (MSTU), effective for tax year 2026 and with a potential 10‑year duration; - Resolution 2025‑57, the 20th addendum to the law-enforcement-services agreement with Sheriff Rick L. Bradshaw (an approximately 3% increase in cost, roughly $18,358); - Resolution 2025‑58, renewal of the city’s property, casualty, auto liability and workers’ compensation package (staff reported the annual premium ~ $376,450, a $27,785 savings from the prior year); and - Resolution 2025‑59, the employee benefits renewal (staff reported a 9.1% medical-cost increase and an 11.6% increase in dental HMO rates; basic life and vision unchanged; rates guaranteed for two years).
Also approved was Resolution 2025‑60 authorizing Pahokee Middle‑Senior High School’s Oct. 3 homecoming parade and Resolution 2025‑61 authorizing the inaugural Pahokee High alumni picnic (Oct. 4 at MLK Park). The alumni event was reported to have collected $3,600 in registration and vendor fees; the commission authorized the city to provide liability coverage and to contribute up to $1,500 in incidental funds if event receipts do not cover costs, and the commission amended the resolution to specify that unspent funds will be reserved for future editions of this event.
All roll‑call votes recorded in the meeting transcript were unanimous (Vice Mayor Calvin Williams, Commissioner McFersonson, Commissioner McDonald, Commissioner Scott and Mayor Bab voting “yes”).
