Braidwood ' Dina Morgan, representing the Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition, appealed to the council and residents during public comment to support a winter nonperishable food drive and to take precautions against impaired driving over the holidays.
Morgan described the drive as a partnership with Financial Plus Credit Union, Diamond and American Legion Post 39 to assemble meal kits and keep community micro-pantries stocked through winter. She said flyers with donation and drop-off details were available at the meeting and invited volunteers to help assemble kits, stock pantries or donate money for missing items.
On impaired-driving prevention, Morgan noted national and state statistics to underscore risk and urged planning for safe rides and awareness of prescription and over-the-counter impairments. "Please take a hand out from the table before you leave that contains more information," she told attendees.
Council members thanked volunteers and highlighted related community holiday events, including a tree-lighting and Shop with a Cop. Staff and council records noted the coalition and other community groups provided support for the season's activities.
Next steps: the coalition will announce distribution locations and dates as meal-kit schedules are finalized and city staff said volunteer sign-ups and donation receipts are available for contributors.
