Braidwood staff recommends LRS as low bidder for residential refuse; modest rate bump expected

Braidwood — During the Nov. 25 meeting city staff reported that two companies responded to the city’s solid-waste request for proposals and that LRS emerged as the low bidder.
City clerk Sarah told the council only two companies replied: the incumbent LRS and Homewood Disposal. Homewood’s base price would have represented a significantly larger increase — roughly $5–$6 more per month under the clerk’s summary — while LRS proposed a first-year increase the clerk described as a $0.96 monthly rise (from approximately $30.04 to $31.00). The recommended three-year contract preserves weekly garbage pickup, weekly yard-waste pickup in season (not in winter), biweekly recycling and adds options for two additional bulk items outside the can per week, plus the annual spring and fall cleanup.
The clerk said LRS will attend the committee of the whole meeting on Dec. 9 to answer questions and go over contract details with council members.
What residents should know: the city will publish final contract terms after the committee of the whole review; the initial staff recommendation favors LRS based on price and comparable service features. Council did not take a final contract award vote at the Nov. 25 meeting; staff committed to return with the full proposal and answers at the Dec. 9 session.
