Poestenkill board adopts organizational resolution, confirms appointments and policies

The Town of Poestenkill Board voted to adopt a broad organizational resolution at its 2026 reorganizational meeting, approving appointments, compensation, meeting and holiday schedules, mileage reimbursement, an official newspaper, town depositories, the water rate and a review and reaffirmation of procurement and investment policies.

The Supervisor, speaking in their first board meeting, opened the session and said, "Welcome everybody to the Town of Poestenkill meeting. This is my first meeting obviously, so bear with me." The formal resolution was read aloud by the Town Clerk as "a resolution approving organizational meeting appointments, compensation, and other actions," and incorporated an attached schedule of items the board intended to ratify.

The items covered by the resolution were described by the clerk to include appointments and compensation for town officials and services; assignments; meeting and holiday schedules; mileage reimbursement; designation of the official newspaper; selection of town depositories; the town water rate; and review and reaffirmation of the town's procurement and investment policies. The board moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded by "Mr. H." and a roll-call vote recorded the Supervisor and four council members voting "yes," approving the measure.

During discussion following the vote a board member outlined an administrative plan assigning a town board liaison to each department to promote accountability and coordination between elected officials and department staff. After that procedural business, a motion to adjourn the reorganizational meeting carried on a voice vote.

Before the next portion of the agenda began, meeting participants used an informal break to suggest public recognition for municipal staff; one speaker praised a highway department worker, saying, "DJ did an amazing job the last uh week, two weeks." The meeting then paused for the break and for follow-on agenda items.

The reorganizational resolution adopted by the board formalizes administrative appointments and core operating policies for 2026; it does not, according to the meeting record, change substantive policy beyond the administrative, nor did the transcript record any amendments to the resolution. The reorganizational meeting adjourned after the resolution was adopted and the board moved into the next scheduled portion of its calendar.
