Garden Ridge council adopts new landscape irrigation rules, approves naming policy and awards $169,000 tank contract

The council also moved forward on several administrative and procurement items: it adopted a facility‑naming policy to create a clear application, vetting and approval process for naming city buildings and park features, and it appointed Brian Strickland to Water Commission Place 5 for a term expiring Sept. 30, 2027.
On capital projects, City Engineer Hank recommended NG Painting LP as the apparent low bidder to rehabilitate a municipal ground storage tank. Hank said the bids “ranged anywhere between our low bid of I believe it was $169,000 all the way up to $314,000,” and the council approved awarding the contract to NG Painting LP; staff noted a budget savings of about $34,474.
Council also discussed the revised Drought Management Plan (Ordinance 61); Chairman Pole said the commission added an Appendix B to streamline variance reviews and made modest watering‑window adjustments in Appendix A. Council gave consensus to set a public hearing on the drought plan at the next regular meeting rather than adopt it tonight.
Other votes: Council nominated Norma Sanchez Stevens for the Texas Municipal League Region 7 director election (the nomination counts as Garden Ridge’s one vote in the regional tally). All motions on the evening’s agenda were carried by voice vote as recorded by the mayor.
The meeting closed with staff and council reminders about upcoming community events and outreach efforts.
