Staff reported the downtown revitalization survey closed at the end of August with over 400 responses and several walk‑throughs. Mr. Kaiser and planning staff described follow‑up steps: two business‑owner consultation sessions (day and evening) and further analysis before any formal recommendation.
Councillors reviewed correspondence from a property owner (Courtney A. Connor, co‑owner, 33373 Highway 17, Deep River) requesting CIP amendment and extracted that item for referral to staff. Council also received petition materials and feedback about proposed downtown parking changes and agreed to refer the parking feedback to staff and to encourage business‑owner participation in planning.
Staff emphasized accessibility, shade, safety and pedestrian connectivity as major themes from consultations. No firm recommendations or regulatory changes were adopted at the meeting; staff will return with a proposed amendment process and public engagement plan.
