Deb Pesca DiGiulio, director of elder affairs for the City of Revere, told the Human Rights Commission May 7 that she is developing an intergenerational conversation series to be recorded by Revere TV. The series would pair seniors with students from Revere High School to explore generational differences and shared traditions and to build relationships across age groups.
"Our overall project is to have intergenerational conversations between the seniors and just people of different generations," Pesca DiGiulio said, describing plans for panel-style conversations and partnership with the high-school welcome committee and Revere TV. She said she has already discussed setup and recording logistics with Revere TV staff and planned outreach to the high school’s welcome committee to recruit student participants.
Commissioners praised the proposal as a way to reduce isolation among older residents and to create civic learning opportunities for students. Commissioner Sheila Johnson and others described practical benefits—technology exchange, storytelling and social connection—and recommended linking the program to history or civics classes so students can present periodic updates at HRC meetings. The commission agreed staff would follow up with school contacts and that Pesca DiGiulio and commissioners would continue planning with a shared document and weekly updates.
Next steps include finalizing a pilot recording with Revere TV, meeting with the high school welcome committee, and developing outreach to identify seniors and student participants. The commission flagged the project as an ongoing initiative and asked staff to share scheduling and contact details with members as the pilot episode is scheduled.
