Students, residents press Concord committee for affordable housing, sustainability and better digital coverage

Student input: John told the committee he had shared a packet of letters from high-school sophomores who researched the site; he said 17 of 21 students wanted affordable or workforce housing and that one letter recounted a family story of immigration and housing need. "Seventeen out of 21 want to see affordable or workforce housing," John said, and consultants welcomed student participation at open studios and public events.
Sustainability and infrastructure: A public commenter (Pam) argued the town should require stronger infrastructure-level sustainability, including networked geothermal, all-electric buildings and on-site solar with battery storage, saying such systems should be planned up front rather than piecemeal so developers understand expectations. "This is a perfect spot for networked geothermal…that needs to be part of the requirements," the commenter said.
Digital coverage and outreach: Commenters also asked whether all mobile carriers provide coverage at the site and whether town fiber or free Wi‑Fi could be used to improve connectivity; Michael Williams suggested coordinating with school administrators to alert students about the Thursday presentation so more can participate despite finals.
Ending: Consultants acknowledged these priorities and said they will include sustainability considerations and outreach mechanisms in the charrette. The committee agreed to encourage broader public notification so students and residents can participate.
