Town of Concord schedules intensive design charrette for MCI site June 8–11

Consultants for the Town of Concord’s MCI Master Plan Committee detailed a concentrated design ‘‘charrette’’ the week of June 8–11 intended to produce draft alternatives and solicit community feedback.
Phil, the project presenter, told the committee the week will combine two larger public events (Monday and Thursday evenings), informal open-studio sessions (Tuesday 2–4 p.m., Wednesday 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) and a set of 45–50 minute focus groups targeted to topics such as housing, schools, recreation and historic preservation. "We are very excited to be uh here talking with you again as we are getting ever closer to our design sharet week," Phil said, describing the work as a chance to "dig into some details, explore different options and ask for feedback." The consultant team will be based at the Townhouse and the team said the Monday and Thursday evening events will be livestreamed and recorded.
Consultant Chris Dempsey (Spect) advised residents that the Thursday morning committee preview will be less polished and recommended the public attend the Thursday evening presentation to see finished alternatives, while noting the preview remains an important transparency opportunity for the committee.
The consultants stressed multiple ways residents can provide input: structured prompts at Monday’s event, written comment forms at events and on the project website, and sticky-note feedback during open-studio hours. A publicly noticed committee preview is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Townhouse to show in-progress work ahead of the evening presentation. The team asked committee members to encourage broad public participation and said materials from the week will be used to move toward a framework plan and draft zoning this summer and fall.
Next steps: the charrette week will proceed June 8–11, with the committee preview at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday; the consultants will compile input from events, focus groups and developer outreach to inform subsequent framework-plan and zoning work.
