Dr. O'Reilly and student researchers described the Waxman Student Scholars biomolecular research program during the North Brunswick Township Board of Education meeting on May 27.
Dr. O'Reilly said the Waxman program (a Ruckers partnership) has operated at NBTHs for 12 years and offers "graduate level" research opportunities in biomolecular work. Student presenter Ashwin Batia described lab activities — polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction digest, DNA purification and bioinformatics — and said the program works to publish real data in public repositories such as NCBI. Batia stated the program has produced "over 70 DNA clones published onto NCBI" historically, reported 12 DNA clones published in the previous year and said the program expects nearly 20 clones to be published this year.
School leaders announced an honors presentation for current Waxman students, read names of scholars and named a student lab leader for 2026. Dr. O'Reilly and administrators noted creation of a class to recognize Waxman participation on student transcripts while keeping after‑school pathways available for other participants.
Administrators thanked Ruckers University partners and the Board for continued support; no board action or new funding requests were recorded during the presentation.
