North Brunswick students showcase award-winning music, color guard and regional honors

North Brunswick Township High School students and music staff presented a program of performances and recognitions at the school-hosted Board of Education meeting on May 27.
The music supervisor noted that "for the 11th year in a row, the music department in North Brunswick has been awarded the NAM Best Communities for Music Education Award," and introduced award-winning ensembles. The high school's winter percussion ensemble — directed by Joe Scalla and Liz Facelman — was celebrated for winning the US Bands indoor standstill championship with a top score of 92.6. The program also recognized the indoor color guard for placing second in its regional competition despite only being in its second official season.
Board members, district administrators and families attended as the principal and music staff read the names of ensemble captains and students who earned regional and all‑state ensemble placements. The meeting included certificate presentations for students named to CGMEA Region 2 ensembles and the all‑state wind ensemble and choir.
The principal and administrators emphasized the time students invest outside classroom hours and the breadth of musical opportunities the district offers, highlighting marching band, winter percussion and color guard as year-round programs that provide performance and leadership pathways. Families and staff were invited to view displays and recordings in the auditorium and online.
The evening closed with recognition of students who earned placement in regional and all‑state ensembles and with administrators thanking teachers, staff and alumni who support the programs. The board then returned to regular business and adjourned later in the meeting.
