"I started a Facebook page. We have 174 volunteers that are willing to plow, shovel, snowblow," Jacob Slavi said, describing offers of equipment, donations and volunteers to clear skating lanes or small rink areas. Slavi said local residents had also offered hot chocolate and asked the board to consider providing waste receptacles to avoid litter.
Board members and staff noted safety considerations and recommended the volunteers coordinate with the Joint Rock Lake Committee, local fire/rescue and county contacts; the fire department told organizers it can respond to incidents but offered no special access requirements. The board stressed the city is not sponsoring or organizing the event and recommended organizers publicize that participation is at users' own risk.
Next steps: volunteers will continue organizing; board members asked staff to advise on waste receptacles and interagency contacts but made no formal city commitment to the activity.
