Board flags safety hazards at Tyrronina Park; requests immediate city inspection and spring field trip

Members of the Lake Mills Parks Board raised safety concerns about Tyrronina Park at the Dec. 8 meeting and asked city staff to take immediate corrective steps and return with a maintenance plan.
"There is literally rebar poking straight up out of the ground that used to hold wood in place," a board member said, describing exposed rebar near a steep path and collapsed concrete steps into the lake. The board expressed surprise that obvious safety hazards remained and asked staff to cut or secure exposed rebar and remove immediate trip and fall risks.
Drake said staff will inspect the park and prepare an inventory of immediate safety items and longer-term improvements for the board. Members agreed a field trip in April or May would let the board review what staff has completed and to prioritize longer-term investments through Chapter 8 of the CORP.
Next steps: staff to perform an inspection, remedy immediate hazards (cut/cover exposed rebar, clear dangerous debris), report back on work completed and costs, and schedule a spring site visit for the board.
