Pocantico public works schedules June closures for culvert replacements on Rogers, Greenwood roads

The Pocantico Water Commissioners were told May 26 that two local road segments will be closed in June for culvert replacements. Mr. Whittaker, the commission’s public works representative, said Rogers Road just south of Clock Corner will be closed June 17 and 18 “for a culvert replacement,” and Greenwood Road north of Highway 22 will be closed June 22 through 25 for work on a larger culvert.
Mr. Whittaker said the Greenwood project is deeper and more complex, but after taking measurements the commission determined the work can be completed with its own equipment rather than contracting it out. He explained that the site has a rock bottom and that digging beyond about 5 feet requires either shoring or excavating with the sides laid back; the commission chose the latter as the less expensive option.
Officials said standard public-notice steps will be used, including reader boards and routine notifications to affected residents. A commissioner asked who was accompanying Mr. Whittaker; he identified Travis Sunseth as present with him.
The meeting did not include a formal vote on the closures; the board heard the public works update and moved on to other items.
