Lopatcong Township swears in two council members and elects council president at Jan. 7 reorganization meeting

Lopatcong Township held its Jan. 7, 2026 reorganization meeting, where two incoming council members were sworn into office and the council selected its leadership for the year.
Scott Marinelli and James Pledo each took the oath of office to begin three-year terms, reciting the standard oath to “support the Constitution of the United States” and the Constitution of the State of New Jersey. The clerk recorded roll call after the swearing-in.
During the reorganization, the council opened nominations for council president. A member nominated Jim (James) Pledo; a second was recorded and a voice vote followed. The nomination carried with affirmative responses, making Pledo the council president for the year.
Staff summarized items handled in the closed executive session earlier in the meeting, including attorney–client privilege matters, the Kong Park project, several contractual negotiations and grievances, a pending LAA contract and litigation concerning 110 South 6th Street. No official action was taken in executive session; the council said minutes will be released when it determines doing so will not cause public harm.
The council approved its reorganization consent agenda as presented. The mayor also announced a special council meeting set for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, with executive session at 6:30 p.m. and public session at 7:30 p.m.
The council adjourned after routine public comment and the completion of scheduled business.
