Elwood passes parking-change ordinance; council tables two other ordinances

Council members said the reserved space at 1307 South G Street was tied to a previous tenant who has moved, freeing the space for other use, and that the police chief recommended one handicap space (rather than two) at 1409 Southeast Street. The ordinance was read and passed on second reading with a roll-call vote.
At the same meeting the council discussed Ordinance 2483 (details and fee/timing language questioned) and asked that the building commissioner attend a future meeting to answer technical questions; members moved to table that ordinance. The council also discussed Ordinance 2486, a draft ban on camping in campers, recreational vehicles and tents within the municipal limits, described by members as an early draft; that item was tabled for additional input from code enforcement and the court.
The council directed staff to place the tabled ordinances on a future agenda after the requested stakeholders have met with councilors and staff, and to provide clearer bill language for the council's review.
