Ridgewood resident presses council on eroded storm drains and short signposts; council pledges interim repairs and SOP follow-up

Donna Scanland, representing the Ridgewood homeowners association, reported multiple locations in the subdivision where storm drains and culverts have eroded, leaving large holes that she said are safety hazards for residents. She presented photographs to the council and asked for a timeline for repairs.

"My name is Donna Scanland. I'm on the POA Board of Directors for the Ridgewood subdivision," she said, and described erosion around storm drains and the need for repairs and better resident communication.

City staff and the mayor responded that Public Works will place dirt to fill erosion sites and will replace short signposts that make traffic signs difficult to see. A city representative said crews will bring a load of dirt and install new posts to address the immediate hazards; staff asked the POA to notify residents when work begins.

Council members emphasized the need for standard operating procedures (SOPs) across departments, particularly for public works, building, court and planning departments. Council asked that interim assignment of day-to-day ticket prioritization include copying the mayor until a permanent public works director is hired so citizen requests receive timely follow-up.

Follow-up and timeline: staff committed to making the immediate repairs (dirt placement and sign-post replacement) and to report progress at the next meeting or work session; the council also directed that SOPs be completed for the listed departments and that interim communication protocols be strengthened.
