Springhill approves $95,000 emergency sewer repairs and accepts lower bid for Doctor Drive work

At its regular meeting the Springhill City Council approved emergency repairs to a sewer failure on South Street and accepted a lower bid for a separate Doctor Drive drainage and pavement repair project.
Council voted to approve $95,000 to address the South Street sewer failure after staff presented the cost estimate and moved for approval. The council then reviewed two quotes for Doctor Drive repairs: Buds Construction for $37,761.31 with availability to start Sept. 2 and complete by Sept. 16, and 3G Construction for $45,000 with an earlier availability of Sept. 14 and an estimated 21 days to complete work. John Prince presented the quotes and timeline to the council.
John Prince said, "on Buds it was $37,761.31 — September 2nd and they complete September 16th," and described the planned work: installing a junction box, filling and grading the adjacent ditch area, and replacing a section of pavement with a concrete curve and gutter to improve turning radii.
After discussion the council moved to accept Buds Construction’s lower bid; the motion carried with the council recording an "all in favor" vote in the transcript. Council members and staff noted contractors' availability and the desirability of coordinating with other nearby construction activity before finalizing staging.
