The Land Stewardship Committee approved a proposal to obtain a surveyed site plan for the Woodward Conservation Parcel and asked the Conservation Commission to consider paying the $3,500 quote from Stansky & McNary.
Committee members debated whether the expense is properly borne by LSC or by ConCom or the original grantor. Brian Murphy explained the quote covered a completed site plan, replacement of some stakes and notation of right‑of‑way encroachments needed for a conservation restriction. A number of members noted the expense would support completing a conservation restriction and the town’s ability to manage the parcel.
Claudia moved and Julie seconded a recommendation that ConCom pay the bill; Warren and others proposed instead approving the quote contingent on ConCom funding or concurrence. After discussion the committee approved the funds conditionally and agreed to place the matter on the ConCom agenda for final funding approval.
Members said the committee would seek to prorate costs among committees that benefited from the purchase if ConCom declined to cover the full amount. The LSC also asked staff to include the survey documentation in the meeting packet for the ConCom discussion.
What happens next: The committee approved the quote conditionally and will forward the proposal and the LSC’s recommendation to the Conservation Commission for final budgetary decision.
Quoted at meeting: “We’re being asked to pay an additional $3,500 to Stampsky and McNary for the purposes of completing a site plan,” Brian Murphy said. Committee members suggested asking ConCom to take the lead on payment or to prorate costs across related committees.
No formal appropriation was recorded tonight beyond the conditional approval and the referral to ConCom.
