The governing board approved a data‑sharing agreement between Marana Unified School District, Youth on Their Own and Chazin Hall Center for Children to evaluate a stipend program intended to improve attendance and academic outcomes.
Mr. Bane explained the evaluation will use three sets of de‑identified student data — students enrolled in Youth on Their Own, students identified as homeless or unstably housed under McKinney‑Vento, and all other students — limited to grades 8–12 across the 2023–24 through 2026–27 school years. He said the stipend program provides up to $400 per month on a tiered basis (students who attend 85–100% of days earn $400) and the evaluation aims to determine whether the stipend improves attendance and classroom performance.
When asked how many McKinney‑Vento students the district currently serves, administration said about 209, and that roughly 30–35 students are enrolled in Youth on Their Own. Mr. Bane said all shared data will be FERPA/Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act compliant and that the agreement was approved by district legal counsel.
The board moved, seconded and approved the data‑sharing agreement. Administration will provide de‑identified data as specified in the agreement for the stated years.
