Miss Rey told the board the honors integrated math courses would be offered concurrently with existing integrated math sections at Vista for students who demonstrate readiness for honors work. The capstone elective — described as a one-credit, project-based course emphasizing action research and mastery learning — would be implemented at Vista next year. Administration also noted that a state-provided crosswalk allows AP Business with Personal Finance to count as a fourth-year math elective when essential math standards are embedded.
A board motion to approve the new courses was made, seconded and carried. Board members asked where the courses would be offered; administration said they could be offered across the district once approved, with immediate implementation planned at Vista and at least one section of the AP business course at Marana High School.
Next steps: administration will schedule the courses and implement honors sections and the capstone at Vista after curricular and staffing preparations.
