Resident says contractor cut down tree without notice, asks council to fix East Street damage

At public comment, resident Maryanne Hunley told the council that crews working on sewer lines on East Street removed a tree from her front yard without notifying her while she was away for her granddaughter's graduation.

"I never gave anybody authority to cut my tree," Hunley said, describing how she learned about the removal from a caretaker and later saw heavy equipment tracks across her lawn. She said the tree was cut a year before any sidewalks were installed and that she had received no prior notice from contractors about work on her property.

Hunley said she spoke briefly with Mr. Klene (spelled 'Klene' in the transcript) but did not receive firm dates for sidewalk installation or tree replacement. She described the yard as a "shoddy job" and said the only way to restore the lawn would be for the contractor to return with fill and seed.

Hunley also raised a drainage concern: a newly paved portion of the road forms a large puddle in heavy rain near a pool in the roadway. Council members asked that she provide photographs for staff and suggested following up with Mr. Klene to obtain exact dates. Council members and staff expressed understanding of her frustration; no formal remediation plan or timeline was recorded in the meeting minutes.

Hunley said she hopes not to have to return to future meetings to press the issue.
