Thompson honors Roy Kitka as January Veteran of the Month

The Board of Selectmen presented Sergeant Roy Kitka of Wilsonville Road as Thompson’s January 2026 Veteran of the Month. A presenter read the press release summarizing Kitka’s service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve (1966–1971), his long-standing local business (Roy’s Tire Sales), volunteer leadership with the Danielson Veterans Coffee House and a 1982 rescue that drew local and state commendations.
The presenter described Kitka’s military training, his work history, community volunteerism and recent recognition by the Danielson Veterans Coffee House; selectmen praised his decades of service and the board presented a plaque, then invited photos. “I thought I knew a lot about you and your family, but that was eye opening,” the presenter said while introducing the tribute.
Kitka received thanks from officials and the community; he briefly addressed the meeting, accepted the plaque and posed for photographs with family and board members. The ceremony was described as part of an ongoing monthly recognition program inaugurated the previous August; the presenter noted the office has received dozens of nominations to date.
