Plaistow selectmen unanimously recommend $14.01 million operating warrant article; default set at $13.93 million

The Plaistow Board of Selectmen voted unanimously on Jan. 5 to recommend warrant article P2602, which requests an operating budget of $14,013,949 for fiscal 2026, with a default budget of $13,929,786.
A board member moved to recommend the article and a second was recorded; the subsequent voice vote was announced as 5–0 in favor. The chair said he would submit the finalized numbers to the DRA portal to complete the warrant paperwork ahead of the public hearing.
Town staff and selectmen noted the difference between the proposed and default budgets is approximately $174,000 and discussed where defaulting to the prior year’s numbers could require delaying hires or absorbing costs in other line items (for example, salt purchases in heavy winter years, or hiring for police, fire, highway or town-hall positions).
The board also confirmed the budget committee had completed its review and recommended the operating-budget figure that was moved forward as a warrant article. The public hearing and subsequent deliberative session dates were discussed in selectmen reports (the deliberative session was confirmed for Jan. 31 at 9:00 a.m., at Town Hall).
