At the agenda review, staff announced they will direct procurement to issue a termination for the school-zone camera program contract with Vieira and later use a piggyback with Redspeed for red-light camera and school-zone speed detection enforcement.
A commissioner asked whether the city could separate the school-zone and red-light camera contracts. "Is there a way to have those contracts separate, the school zone and the red light camera, or why or do they have to be grouped together?" the commissioner asked. Staff (Stacy) replied that the red-light and school-zone camera contract was procured together as a single piggyback contract, so the components are grouped.
Staff said the termination will include an effective date and that a replacement piggyback agreement with Redspeed will be included on the republished agenda for commission action. No formal termination vote occurred during the agenda review; staff framed the action as an administrative procurement step to be completed before the commission meeting.
