Adventure Acres opens in Walker County with playground, splash pad and state ARPA support

Walker County officials on May 20 opened Adventure Acres, a new signature park featuring a nature-themed playground, climbing features, a zip-track and a splash pad that county leaders said will serve families and visitors for generations.
"This park stands as a symbol of what we can do as a team," said Angie Team, chairwoman of the Walker County Board of Commissioners, who formally welcomed the crowd and thanked staff and contractors for completing the project. Joe Lee, Walker County's director of communications and community development, described the site as a landmark built for multi-generational use and pointed to design elements aimed at integrating nature with recreation.
County officials said the project was funded primarily through an American Rescue Plan Act "improving neighborhood outcomes in disproportionately impacted communities" grant administered by the state of Georgia. A county representative said State Representative Mike Cameron wrote a letter of support for the grant; Cameron spoke at the opening and thanked the governor and local partners for their support.
"Children need a place to play," Cameron said, praising the park as a community asset. Representatives from Dominican Recreation Products and Game Time, which helped design and deliver custom playground elements, also spoke and thanked installation partners including CoPenex Group, Legacy Construction, Barge Design and Pillar Construction.
Allison Mizler, Walker County's tourism manager, said Adventure Acres will also serve as a draw for visitors and thanked county departments and the Walker County Chamber for their roles in making the site visitor-ready. A Civic Center staff member identified in remarks as Sarah Buckberry noted that staff members Richard Russell and Sarah Buckberry obtained required certification to operate the splash pad and will be involved in day-to-day maintenance.
Organizers announced that admission to Adventure Acres is free. The splash pad will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the park is open from dawn to dusk. Attendees were invited to stay for refreshments, giveaways and event-only merchandise.
County leaders said the park aims to support quality-of-life goals and increase outdoor recreation opportunities in Walker County; they did not announce any immediate follow-up actions or additional funding requests at the ceremony.
