The Bastrop City Council voted to apply previously authorized millage rate adjustments on a resolution that the council approved by roll-call vote. Administration told the council the adjustment would raise annual millage collections by about $30,434.94 on top of roughly $2,726,970.20 in existing millage receipts.
Administration explained the adjustments are intended to bring collections in line with bond repayment obligations, saying the city had been collecting less than required and that the state and lenders expect the municipality to collect sufficient revenue to meet loan terms. The administration also noted that only the top six millage lines were being adjusted this year while the other authorized rates remain unchanged.
A councilmember noted the millages were authorized previously by voters and described the action as a ‘‘roll forward’’ of rates already on the books rather than a new tax. Administration said the net tax impact equates to roughly $0.65 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Council moved and seconded the resolution to apply the adjustments (resolution 26‑2136) and carried it by roll call. The council also adopted the authorized rates that were not changing this year. Ahead of finalizing the budget, administration said the proposed budget and supporting documents will be posted for public review beginning Monday, June 1.
The council discussion included a minor technical correction to the fire‑department millage line (an increase shown as 0.11 in the documents will be amended to 0.12 before finalization). The council directed staff to make the correction and to continue the public‑notice and appropriation process prior to final adoption.
The council’s action is procedural for the current budget cycle: administrators said the millage lines were previously approved by voters and the current votes apply the year‑to‑year adjustments needed to ensure bond compliance. The record shows the council voted in favor of the adjustment resolution in a roll‑call vote; the administration will post the budget and bring department presentations in regular order before the final adoption deadline of June 30.
