The Marshalltown Community School District board meeting featured multiple student recognitions and presentations from career and technical student organizations.
Students recognized included four National Math Stars nominees from district elementary grades and a group of juniors who placed first at the state National History Day contest and will compete at nationals in July. Coaches and student-members of the district’s esports teams described a runner-up finish in Valorant and the district’s first-ever Mario Kart state championship. Coaches emphasized teamwork, daily practice schedules and the role of volunteer coaches and college internship pathways.
Representatives from FBLA, FCCLA, SkillsUSA and FFA described membership growth, community service, competitive achievements and leadership development activities. Advisers noted members who advanced to state or national events, community service at the Iowa Veterans Home and plans for fundraising and chapter growth next year.
The board congratulated the students and coaches and presented small tokens of recognition for the accomplishments.
