The police chief told council members on June 2 that two patrol vehicles are currently out of service, one because its transmission "is done" and the other because it may be repairable at lower cost. The chief asked council members to visit the department and review equipment, and said staff welcome further questions.
"Our door is always open," the chief said, adding that the department was short‑handed at the end of the month and had not provided full statistics at the meeting. "We'll be getting that to you later this week. We'll email to each and every one of you and we'll also post it on our Facebook."
The chief described a plan to evaluate whether to replace the damaged transmission or pursue another vehicle and said the second cruiser "might be fixable a lot cheaper," without giving a cost estimate at the meeting. There was no specific timeline beyond the promise to deliver statistics and follow up by email.
Council members asked whether there were any questions; the discussion did not produce a formal motion or budget request and the chief did not identify a funding source for any replacement vehicle during the meeting. The council did not take formal action at the session; staff will bring any required budget requests or purchase proposals back to the council for consideration.
