Council reports new partnership with Jersey Battered Women's Services and plans for a local 'divert' team

Councilman Murphy told the Nov. 10 Little Falls Township Council that the township is partnering with Jersey Battered Women's Services (JBWS) after the organization won a county contract to assume responsibilities previously handled by a county domestic-violence center.
Murphy said JBWS brings resources the township has not previously had and that the group will work with the police department to set up a local "divert" team and provide teleconference support and community outreach for survivors. "We actually have a meeting tomorrow night with our committee on that training and some of the things that are involved in that," Murphy said.
He said the collaboration could expand survivor supports, create additional outreach and increase police coordination. Lieutenant Bill Chris of the Little Falls Police Department participated in the meeting and was identified as a partner in implementation.
Councilman Murphy said he would keep the council updated as the committee meets and training occurs; no formal council vote or resolution was recorded at the Nov. 10 meeting.
