Wright County recognizes Foster Care Month and accepts park donations for anniversary events

Wright County commissioners recognized May as Foster Care Awareness Month on May 5 and introduced foster parents the board said had been honored regionally for their work.
Christine Trackler of Health and Human Services told the board the county wanted to highlight a foster family this year: Deb Zenz and Mike Peterson, who were cited as winners of the Minnesota Social Services Association Region 7 Excellence in Child Foster Care award and currently care for eight children ages 2 to 22. Trackler and commissioners praised the family’s willingness to take in children with challenging needs and large sibling groups; the board invited the couple for a photo and applause.
In the parks program presentation, staff previewed two events: the Robert Ney Nature Center’s 30th-anniversary celebration with raptor demonstrations and canoe rides, and the “Challenge Wright” hiking program covering seven county trails. Staff said donated items and cash will provide participant prizes and offset program expenses. The board moved to adopt Resolution 2636 accepting business donations to the Parks Department and later adopted Resolution 2604 accepting a $200 donation for Wellness on Wheels; both actions passed unanimously.
Commissioners encouraged residents to thank foster parents and noted the connection between foster care and broader mental-health needs in the community.
