Nurse program update; health fund shows low reserves after high claims months

Nurse coordinator Carrie Snedden summarized daily nursing responsibilities (first aid, medication administration, management of students with complex medical needs), partnerships with local providers and telemedicine usage. She said the district has implemented cardiac emergency response protocols, AED signage, and stop‑the‑bleed training for staff across buildings.
Financially, Dr. Dicki reported that for the month ending March 31, 2026 the health fund had revenues a little over $707,000 and disbursements a little over $810,000 with an ending balance of $58,881.91. She told the board that the prior 12 months included several months with very large claims — "one, two, three, four months where we were well over a million dollars in expenses" — which significantly reduced reserves. Staff said they are monitoring claims weekly and will bring premium and bid recommendations to HPAC this summer.
Board members asked for continued monitoring and six‑month projections to prevent surprises and to align health‑plan budgeting with upcoming bargaining and compensation changes.
The board thanked nurses and health partners for clinical supports and noted ongoing partnerships with the Joplin Health Department, Access Dental Clinic and telemedicine providers.
