Allenale fifth-graders present 'Paw Prints' student newspaper to the board

Mrs. Kasamasa, school librarian at Allenale Elementary, introduced the Allenale Paw Prints fifth-grade newspaper club at the board meeting and said the winter 2026 issue is already published. She described a student-driven process in which pupils pitch ideas, vote on names and take assignments for articles, comics and reviews.
Several students spoke about their experience. "My favorite thing about the Paw Prints is I like to write articles and engage with other students and readers," said Jaden Sourer, a member of the club. Aaliyah said the club lets her "be really creative" and Abigail said she enjoys seeing the finished paper in the hands of readers and family. Molly Murela said she likes that parents can read the paper and be excited.
The club plans a spring issue with features on global warming, the history of Allenale, a West End SPCA profile, a Culture Corner and a Ramadan profile. Students hope to expand to four issues and a year-round club next year, add guest speakers from local papers and experiment with broadcast journalism and layout work using tools such as Canva and Google Docs.
The board thanked the students and invited attendees to pick up copies of the newspaper after the presentation.
