Commission hears proposal to abandon short, unused stretches of three county roads

County highway staff described three separate applications to partially abandon right-of-way on Cunningham Ridge Road, Grimes Road and Moore Road during the June 1 Montgomery County commission meeting.
Mr. Tendle, speaking for the county highway department, said the Cunningham Ridge Road segment in AB1 2026 is "mostly... either non-existent or a dirt road" and does not serve additional properties; the goal is to remove extra right-of-way records from county and assessor lists. For AB2 2026 on Grimes Road he said a 50-foot private road segment will be retained so residents can keep a private road name plate and mail delivery; the remainder would become private access. For AB4 2026 on Moore Road he said the county would retain a blue segment near Richardson Road but abandon a red section just past address 541.
Tendle said all three abandonments were initiated by the county highway department and were heard previously at the planning commission, which recommended approval. Commissioners had no questions on the three items during the meeting and the chair moved them forward for inclusion on the consent agenda.
There was no recorded vote or public opposition during the June 1 meeting minutes; Mr. Tendle offered to answer follow-up questions outside the meeting.
Next steps typically include formal action on the consent agenda or a subsequent commission vote; the June 1 minutes do not record the final disposition of each abandonment.
