Board of Commissioners approves consent items, nominations and holds executive session

At its March 12 meeting, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners approved multiple tax-refund dispositions, a park closure for a Nov. 14, 2026 5K, nominated selection committees for boards, recessed for executive session on litigation matters, approved executive session minutes, and adjourned.
The Fayette County Board of Commissioners handled routine business and administrative items at its March 12 meeting, approving consent items, making nominations to selection committees and conducting an executive session on litigation.
On the consent agenda the Board approved multiple tax-refund dispositions: $5,070.99 for a request filed by Leah Sumner as agent for Anita H. Haynes (tax year 2025); $6,076.81 requested by Thomas H. McMeekin (tax years 2023–2024); $6,176.93 requested by Loretta Simpson (tax years 2023–2025); and a $253.34 disposition for Corey Treaster (tax year 2025). The Board also approved closing McCurry Park North on Nov. 14, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the TJ Thomas Jefferson Foundation 5K to raise prostate cancer awareness and funds serving Fayette and Coweta communities.
County Administrator Steve Rapson provided the Hot Topics report, listing updates on the Parks and Recreation Multi-Use Facility, the Stars Mill School Tunnel Project, Mark Lane culvert replacement, Darren Drive box culverts and the Cross Creek culvert replacement. Rapson also said selection committees were needed to fill vacancies: Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons and Commissioner Charles W. Oddo were nominated for the Family and Children Services Board selection committee; Commissioner Oddo and Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau were nominated for the Board of Assessors selection committee; and Vice Chairman Gibbons and Chairman Lee Hearn were nominated for the Development Authority selection committee. The application deadline for the Development Authority was extended 30 days.
County Attorney Dennis A. Davenport announced six executive-session items (two involving pending litigation, three involving threatened litigation, and review of Feb. 26, 2026 executive session minutes). The Board recessed at 5:14 p.m. and returned at 6:01 p.m.; the Board approved returning to official session, authorized the Chairman to sign the Executive Session Affidavit, and approved the Feb. 26, 2026 executive session minutes, each by recorded 5-0 votes. Commissioner Charles W. Oddo moved to adjourn at 6:02 p.m.; Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
