The Sanger City Council met in a special session on March 19, 2026, at the Council Chamber, 1700 7th Street, and adjourned into closed session to discuss labor negotiations and anticipated litigation, with no reportable action taken, the City Attorney said.
Mayor Frank Gonzalez presided over the meeting, which was called to order at 5:35 p.m. Council Member Melendez moved to approve the agenda as posted; Council Member Michael Montelongo seconded. The motion carried with Ayes: Mayor Frank Gonzalez, Council Member Michael Montelongo, Council Member Hurtado and Council Member Melendez; Noes: none; Absent: Mayor pro tem Martinez. (Mayor pro tem Martinez arrived later at 6:09 p.m.)
The Council adjourned to closed session at 5:36 p.m. for a conference with labor negotiators pursuant to Government Code Section 54957.6. The agenda identified Shelline Bennett as the agency's lead negotiator and Amanda Champion as human resources manager; employee organizations listed were the Sanger Middle Management Organization, unrepresented/confidential employees and executive employees. The Council also considered whether to initiate litigation under Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(4), with the agenda noting one potential case.
The body reconvened to its regular meeting at 6:15 p.m. and concluded the regular session at 8:57 p.m., at which time it returned to closed session.
