Brownwood ratifies Ryan Ward as Assistant City Manager of Public Works

The Brownwood City Council on April 14 unanimously ratified Ryan Ward as the city’s new Assistant City Manager of Public Works. The appointment was ratified by motion from Councilmember Draco A. Miller with a second from Councilmember H.D. Jones.
City Manager Marshal McIntosh said the change is part of a restructuring to strengthen executive oversight and succession planning in advance of an expected retirement in the public works leadership. McIntosh told the council the new position will oversee streets, utilities, sanitation, landfill, fleet, airport and planning and will help lead major initiatives and about $14 million in infrastructure projects.
McIntosh and staff summarized Ward’s experience: more than 30 years in municipal, state and private-sector operations; oversight in Santa Fe County of five public works divisions with responsibility for about 98 employees and a capital improvement program of roughly $220 million; service as Assistant City Manager in Lampasas supervising about 140 employees and a budget exceeding $33 million; and a Master of Public Administration plus credentials in public and emergency management. The council voted to ratify his appointment following executive-session consideration under the state open-meetings personnel exception (Section 551.074).
After the vote, Mr. Ward thanked the council and said he is excited to join the team and return home, noting the city’s !SERVE culture was a strong fit.
