The Town Board of Collins opened a public hearing Nov. 6 on a proposed contract with the Village of Gowanda to supply fire protection to Collins Fire Protection District No. 1 for years 2015–2017 (payments proposed at $20,751 in 2018, $20,959 in 2019 and $21,168 in 2020). Supervisor David Tessmer read the notice and explained the district boundaries and that the contract has been in place for many years.
Jim Eddy, speaking for the Fire Commissioners, reviewed the agreement and reported finding discrepancies between the Schedule A map recently received and the map the town has historically used. Eddy recommended the town attorney meet with a Village representative to reconcile the map and the contract before the board acts. With no questions or public comments, Supervisor Tessmer closed the hearing and did not bring the contract to a vote that evening.
The board did not adopt the contract; it remains pending further review by legal counsel and a Village representative. The action required — reconciling the district map with the contract’s Schedule A — was the principal outstanding issue identified at the hearing.
Next steps: the town attorney and a representative from the Village of Gowanda will be asked to compare the two maps and agreement language; no timeline for resubmission was specified at the meeting.
