Commission approves Main Street matching grants, waives Best Western penalty, and signs off on vouchers and payroll

Duchesne County commissioners on May 18 approved two Main Street matching grants and several routine financial items.
Economic Development Director Kori Wilde presented two Main Street matching grant applications. Commissioners approved a $10,000 matching grant for Mark Hicken, CPA/ABS Accounting (replacement of computers and exterior painting) and a $4,336 matching grant for Just a Wee Bit Used LLC (carpet replacement). Wilde noted both businesses hired local contractors for the work.
In the Auditor's Office segment, Deputy Assessor Brandi Winterton said Best Western Duchesne Inn's ownership changed in January 2025 and reported higher taxes under the new owner; Commissioner Jeff Chugg moved to waive penalty and interest for the property, Commissioner Tracy Killian seconded and the motion passed.
Deputy Clerk-Auditor Oaklee Larsen presented vouchers for May 18 (checks 172931 through 173003) totaling $222,935.49; the commission approved the vouchers. Human Resource Payroll & Benefits Administrator Jamie Park presented payroll for the period ending May 9, 2026, reporting that 249 employees were paid; commissioners approved payroll as presented.
Next steps: grant recipients will be processed according to program rules; waived penalty for the Best Western will be applied to the account; vouchers and payroll will be disbursed per the county process.
