Commission approves Main Street matching grants, waives Best Western tax penalties and signs off on vouchers and payroll

On May 18 the Duchesne County Commission approved a series of routine financial and administrative items, including two Main Street Matching Grant awards, a tax-penalty waiver request, vouchers and payroll.
Economic Development Director Kori Wilde presented two Main Street Matching Grant applications: Just a Wee Bit Used LLC requested a $4,336 matching grant for new carpet and hired local contractors; Mark Hicken, CPA/ABS Accounting, requested a $10,000 matching grant to replace computers and paint a building exterior. The Commission approved both grants as presented.
Deputy Assessor Brandi Winterton presented a personal property tax notice for Best Western Duchesne Inn noting higher taxes after the property changed ownership in January 2025; the Commission voted to waive penalty and interest for the property. Deputy Clerk-Auditor Oaklee Larsen presented vouchers (check numbers 172931 through 173003) totaling $222,935.49; Human Resource Payroll & Benefits Administrator Jamie Park presented payroll for the period ending May 9, 2026, which included pay for 249 employees. The Commission approved the vouchers and payroll.
The Commission also approved the May 11, 2026 combined meeting minutes and authorized eight volunteers for the County Fair as presented by Human Resources staff.
What happens next: Economic Development staff will issue grant disbursements per program rules; Auditor’s office staff will process the waived penalty/interest and payment vouchers.
