Commission approves approach permits, discusses paving and jurisdictional road issues

The Duchesne County Commission approved three approach permits for a proposed subdivision and discussed multiple road repair and jurisdiction issues during its May 18 meeting.

Public Works Deputy Director Clint Curtis presented four approach-permit applications and recommended postponing one (A26-033) pending additional information. Commissioner Jeff Chugg moved to approve permits A26-028, A26-029 and A26-030; Commissioner Tracy Killian seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Public Works Director Mike Casper provided an update on ongoing projects: a recent 4Point cleanup that removed about four tons of trash, paving work in Pleasant Valley, graders currently operating, and the crusher returning to service. He reported chip-seal work on River Road, crack-seal projects and a failed crack seal at the landfill road that needs rework. Casper and commissioners also discussed jurisdictional uncertainty for 2000 West Uintah Canyon Highway and a dust issue on 7000 West; they agreed to coordinate with the Business Committee to confirm responsibility.

Duchesne City Mayor Deborah Herron requested County Road 195 be paved to support new home construction on the bench and suggested contacting the private developer and an oil company about potential partnership funding; commissioners asked staff to make those contacts.

Next steps: staff will gather additional information on A26-033, coordinate with Roosevelt City and the Business Committee on jurisdictional questions, and seek possible partnerships to address County Road 195.
